Remember TeleMation? I sure
do. Having attended a high school with a vocational television production
course in the early seventies I was exposed to many of TeleMations innovative
products with that distinctive brown or beige finish. Our two studio cameras were TMC 2100’s
switched through a TM Multicaster
SEG and we got our station ID’s and PSA’s from our TM filmchain.
All the video was piped through TM video distribution
amplifiers and measured with a unique TM
waveform sampler. The Japanese would enter the market a few years later
with high quality, low cost color cameras, VTR’s and switchers which the
domestic companies couldn’t compete with. Our facility replaced the TM switcher
with a Shintron 370, and the TM monochrome cameras were replaced with Sony
Trinicon DXC-1200 color cameras. But it wasn’t the end of the road for our TM
hardware; Our TM switcher was integrated into a remote
console and taken on the road to football games and parades and the film
chain outlasted at least two new color camera updates before graphics and spots
were punched up via still store, character generator or videotape roll ins.
I’ve been
fortunate enough to see many dignitaries through the lens of the TM-2100
including Ronald Reagan, Jimmy Carter, and Governor John Connally and have many
fond memories of those high school days. I am still in possession of all of
this dependable; American made groundbreaking gear and would like to hear from
others who would like to Remember
TeleMation.
Enjoy your stay!
Sincerely,
Bob Berthel
